President of TIF Attended the Regional Ecological Summit 2026 in Astana
President of the Turkic Investment Fund, H.E. Baghdad Amreyev, attended the Regional Ecological Summit 2026, held in Astana, Kazakhstan, from 22 to 24 April 2026 under the theme “Shared Vision for a Resilient Future.” Convened by Kazakhstan in partnership with the United Nations, the summit brought together the Heads of State of Central Asia, leaders from neighboring countries, senior UN officials, international organizations, development partners, experts, and business representatives to discuss coordinated responses to climate, water, biodiversity, and related ecological challenges.
The summit focused on practical cooperation and on turning political promises into real action. Discussions centered on shared challenges such as water scarcity, desertification, glacier retreat, air pollution, and biodiversity loss, along with the need for more green finance, stronger coordination, and regional agreements to support follow-up work over time.
President of Kazakhstan H.E. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev called for a practical regional response to shared environmental pressures and announced the start of consultations on a proposed International Water Organization under UN auspices. Other leaders echoed the same line. President of Uzbekistan H.E. Shavkat Mirziyoyev stressed the importance of climate finance, technology, and joint action. President of Kyrgyzstan H.E. Sadyr Japarov focused on ecological solidarity, fairer water sharing, and a balanced water-energy approach. President of Turkmenistan H.E. Serdar Berdimuhamedov called for a more systematic regional response. President of Tajikistan H.E. Emomali Rahmon drew attention to the need for closer cooperation, stronger monitoring, and greener development. UN partners, including UNEP and UNDP, also urged more structured regional action, with attention to biodiversity, circular-economy measures, and resilience investments.
On the sidelines of the summit, H.E. Amreyev held meetings with the Foreign Ministers of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan , Tajikistan and Turkmenistan as well as Ministers of Ecology of TIF member states.
H.E. B. Amreyev had also talks with H.E. Asad Majeed Khan, Secretary General of the Economic Cooperation Organization and H.E. Bakytzhan Sagintayev, Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission, and other senior officials from various countries.
These meetings helped reaffirm shared interests and the value of closer regional cooperation, dialogue, and investment as environmental and development priorities become more closely linked.
