JOB DESCRIPTION AND OBLIGATIONS SUMMARY
The Turkic Investment Fund (TIF / Fund) aims to become a catalyst for socio-economic development and integration of the Turkic countries, and a flagship organization for the promotion of sustainability, intra-regional trade and connectivity via investments across various sectors with a focus on debt financing, equity investments, and other structured/hybrid financial instruments.
The Debt Financing Senior Associate is responsible for undertaking all tasks related to and understands all aspects of debt and other structured credit and hybrid investments development and implementation, including project origination, deal structuring and execution, implementation and monitoring, for all types of debt financing instruments offered by the TIF pursuant to its mandate, vision and mission.
The Debt Financing Senior Associate will act both as a senior member of investment project teams (led by Debt Financing Manager) and as an operation leader (typically on less complex transactions under the supervision of Debt Financing Manager). This role also includes business/pipeline development, client management and transformation driven dialogue with investees and other counterparts.
This role requires a thorough understanding of processes and procedures through the lifecycle of investment portfolio development and management, associated with these relevant technical and soft skills, as well as the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and in multinational/multicultural working environment to support the Fund’s strategic objectives.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Debt Financing Senior Associate takes active part in debt and other structured financing deals execution via critical screening and thorough due diligence of project proposals’ flow generated through business development efforts to identify sound, bankable and executable investments that meet the investment criteria and deliver the mandate of the TIF.
She/he, among other duties, is accountable for business development efforts, investment projects’ appraisal and structuring, negotiation and execution, and performance monitoring of debt investments portfolio. More particularly:
Structuring and Execution
- Work as a senior project team member along with Debt Financing Manager on complex transactions, contributing to all aspects of project structuring and execution.
As an operation leader (OL):
- Lead through all steps of investment cycle from origination, assessment of proposals, obtaining the required investment approvals (including the preparation of investment papers), structuring, negotiation (including review of legal documentation) and the execution of transactions, working with clients, external stakeholders, consultants and internal units, as relevant.
- Lead on project due diligence process ensuring it meets the highest standards and delivers good quality outcome making sure effective use of the Fund’s resources and bankable project portfolio development.
- Ensure that all transactions under her/his responsibility are completed within the specified time frames to a high standard (including all internal Executive approval papers and Board reports) and in line with the policies, procedures and objectives of the Fund.
Investment Portfolio Management and Reporting
- Take proactive part and closely collaborate with the Portfolio Performance, Forecasting and Financial Control (PPFFC) team in effective monitoring of all investment projects within her/his responsibility, including, but not limited to:
- verifying the quality of regular monitoring reports,
- taking active part in maintaining or supervising the management of client relationships,
- actively managing the resolution of any implementation/monitoring issues in cooperation with PPFFC and Risk Management,
- managing and supervising more junior staff who assist in portfolio monitoring.
- In close coordination with PPFFC team in charge of “Portfolio Performance Management” and respective OLs and Debt Financing Manager collectively in charge of “Deal Execution and Client Relationship Management” ensure timely notification and reporting of any critical portfolio issues to the management, ensuring availability of adequate data and information for the Executive Management to be able to take timely decisions.
- Ensure that monitoring / value creation plans are properly developed, clearly articulated, ensuring investments projects deliver on the TIF’s Socio-Economic Empowerment Plan (SEEP) objectives in coordination with PPFFC team.
- Ensure that signed investment commitments are executed, projects implemented, adequately monitored and managed, including the resolution of watchlist (pre-distress) cases.
Business Development
- Assist with marketing and business development efforts in the relevant sector and countries to build reputable market contacts in order to develop a strong investment projects pipeline and cross selling of the Fund’s competencies.
- Assist with the critical screening of project proposal flow that is generated through business development efforts, liaising with other colleagues and teams within the Fund to identify sound, bankable and executable investments that meet the mandate of the Fund.
Staff Management
- Assist in recruiting, training, coaching and mentoring junior investment specialists, in coordination with the Debt Financing Manager and relevant member of Executive Management team, involving junior talent in all aspects of project cycle (business development, appraisal, execution, implementation and monitoring), ensuring adequate quality of project work and appropriate work-load distribution amongst the project team members, contribute to their professional and competency development;
- Develop productive relationships within the organization to be able to work effectively in a product-based matrix structure and in a multi-cultural working environment.
The responsibilities of the Debt Financing Senior Associate are designed to allow for the development of technical expertise and expansion of responsibilities, leading to assuming the role of a Manager.
EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s or equivalent degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field, with a strong academic foundation together with relevant professional experience.
- Relevant to the job additional professional qualifications such as CFA, FRM, ACCA, etc. is an asset.
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum 5 years practical experience of origination, participation in and leading investments transactions through the full project life cycle ideally with institutional investors, global private investments banks, large commercial investors, multinational investors, Multilateral Development Banks / International Financial Institutions, and/or reputable auditing / financial consulting firm operating to international standards.
- Experience in emerging markets, in particular Turkic states would be an asset.

- Credit analysis skills and robust logical reasoning, with the ability to interpret accounts, understanding local and international accounting principles and practice of credit analysis, attention to details.
- Computer literacy, conversant with Microsoft Office and spread sheet packages including financial analysis and modelling modules.
- Excellent understanding of relevant investment industry systems and processes.
- Stakeholder management, relationship management and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work to deadlines and under time pressure.
- Ability to develop well-structured, concise, coherent, and accurate long-form documents in professional business English.
